This is a 2-passenger roadster with 2 doors (rear seat just symbolic if available) produced from 1989-2001.
It was supplied with a convertible fabric roof in various colour combinations as well as a manually detachable hardtop in the colour of the vehicle.
Engine sizes were many: From SL280, 300, 320, 500 and finally the 12 cylinder 600 – all with automatic gear boxes.
The body was based on a shortened floor pan from the W124 model, and the vehicle was a quite new model replacing the “outdated” and very popular R107 model: it had a new rear suspension with multi-link axle. An automatically extending roll over bar for max. safety was installed, as well as integrated seat belts to the seat.
During the long production period the R129 had some updates in August 1994 (1995 models) and in 1995 (1996 models) such as optional installation of cell phone, white turn signal lamps and a BOSE stereo system as standard. In 1996 bumpers became body colour, and the design of the front wings was updated.

models).
As I am the proud owner of both a W113/280SL Pagoda and R107/450SL, I decided to add a R129/500SL to my collection to have convenience in checking spare parts, samples, etc. on a vehicle “in house”.
My silver metallic with dark blue leather interior was imported to Denmark in 2018 and I bought it in 2022.
The vehicle is generally unrestored but has gone through some paint repair jobs on the bumpers and on the rear deck lid. At the same time, it was facelifted with body colour bumpers, white indicators, AMG wheels, etc.
